		Hitholl is back
		2023-05-28 by Alcosmos in news It's been a little over a month since Hitholl went down without previous warning. What happened? First of all, an ISP change. Contract was over, and an increase in price meant a hop to a different one. This company, after the long while it took for them to install the new router, apparently din't allow self-hosting. Forwarding ports would get you really, really, really slow and totally unusable incoming connections, even to serve a plain text file. Fortunately for Hitholl, the adventure wasn't over. After a while, and thinking about renting a VPN if there was no fix for this, the previous company called back. Finally a decent promo. So, finally over? No. They took ages to install their router back. At least, the unlimited data plan provided this house with internet, albeit slow and with a high ping. The remaining part of the downtime was due to work, working on my final project, and, to be honest, laziness. I'm sorry. But good stuff also happened: IP seems to be fixed, because it's been a while and it refuses to change by itself. Also, Hitholl is running on a new, clean install of Raspberry Pi OS, this time a 64-bit one, which should be considerably faster; and both this website and the database are now running off an external HDD, which should bring the risk of database corruption down to zero. Again, I'm sorry about this long downtime. Hope to see the monthly user count getting back to its previous number soon!
